Pulmonology

The department of pulmonary medicine undertakes the prevention, early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of chest/respiratory/thoracic diseases. The department is manned by an experienced Consultant with  outpatient and inpatient divisions which are capable of managing acute and chronic respiratory or ventilatory failure, supportive lung diseases, Tuberculosis, Interstitial lung diseases, sleep disorders, pleural diseases, Pulmonary hypertension including pulmonary vascular disease, respiratory allergic disorders. The department provides special investigation facilities such as Pulmonary Function Tests for reversible airway obstruction and Arterial Blood Gas analysis. Video Bronchoscopy helps in visualizing the respiratory passages down to small divisions and is used to take tissue samples, washings, biopsy etc. from suspected areas of the lungs. Trans bronchial needle aspiration and lung biopsies and trans-thoracic needle aspiration under fluoroscopic/ultrasound guidance can be done when required. Sleep study/polysomnography can be also done in patients with sleep disordered breathing disorders. Assistance for smoking cessation is also provided by this department. Comprehensive Pulmonary rehabilitation is done with the support of Cardiologist, Neurologist, Gastroenterologist, Physician, Physiotherapist, Dietitian, PFT Technician and dedicated trained staff.
